Part 1 - Multiple-Choice Questions
The Theory Test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass the test you must answer at least 43 of the 50 correctly within the 57 minute time limit.

An audio version of the test is available in 20 languages, including Punjabi and Urdu, and a video version is available in British Sign Language. Special arrangements can be made if you are dyslexic or have reading difficulties, including an English audio version, or extra time.

You may have a 3 minute break between the multiple-choice test and the Hazard Perception Test.

Part 2 - Hazard Perception Test
You will first be shown a tutorial video, with accompanying voice-over, which will give examples of how to complete the test. You may watch this twice. You will wear headphones to listen to the voice-over, which is available in the same languages as the Theory Test. It is also available on-screen in British Sign Language.

The HPT will last about 15 minutes. There will be about 15 clips in the test, with each clip involving at one hazard and one clip involving 2 hazards.

You may book your Theory Test with your driving instructor or by calling the Theory Test Centre enquiry line on 0870 01 01 372 between 8am and 6pm Monday - Friday or online at www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring. You will need your driver number to hand, which is shown on your provisional licence.

Payment can be made using most credit cards, but you must be the card holder.
